Valentino Rossi admits that Yamaha have to keep working to remain at the top of MotoGP this season.
Rossi set the second best time of the final pre-season test in Qatar. His time of 1:54.276 was just 0.247s behind leader Johann Zarco. Despite this strong showing, it has been a tough pre-season for Rossi and Yamaha. Tough tests in Malaysia and Thailand saw him finish 9th and 12th respectively. A breakthrough in Qatar enabled him to post quick times.
Rossi felt that the team had put it all together in Qatar, but admits that the situation will still change at each circuit. As a result. he feels more work is required throughout the season to be truly competitive.
“I feel good”
With injuries in 2017 which meant the Italian missed some rounds, he has trained well over the winter. He admits that he is fully fit for the start of the season which will only help him over the course of the season.
Speaking to crash.net, Rossi said:
We have to keep working, but everyone at Yamaha wants to improve, to do nice races and win. We prepared for this first race during the last tests, but we still have the free practice sessions to improve, to do another step. After a long winter, we’ve finally arrived at the first race of this new season, and after many tests, getting to the first race is always nice. The pre-season tests were important, we understood our weak points and the strong ones.
