Movistar Yamaha unveil 2018 bike

In a ceremony today in Casa Del Lector, Madrid, the Movistar Yamaha team have launched their effort for the 2018 season.

The big news of the launch was that Maverick Vinales has signed with the Yamaha team for another two years. As well as this news, the team unveiled their new bike and colour scheme for the new season.

First interviewee was Yamaha Motor Racing President Kouichi Tsuji who discussed the work that Yamaha have been doing in Japan in order to remain at the top of the world championship.

Next up was Team Director Massimo Meregalli who outlined the team’s plans for the season and the testing schedule, including the test at the new Buriram Circuit in Thailand.

After this it was the turn of the riders, with Valentino Rossi up first. He discussed his plans for his 17th season in MotoGP and how he keeps himself motivated. He also discussed how he returned so well last season from his broken leg. Speaking of the new circuit in Thailand, Rossi explained he has some experience having undertaken some promotional work there in the past for Yamaha.

Maverick Vinales was up next and he discussed how happy he was to remain with the team for another two years. His aim for next season is to improve his consistency and learn from mistakes. This will help him in his stated goal of winning the world championship in 2018.

The team came to Madrid again this year, to be joined by Telefónica Spain for the unveiling of the new team colours, before embarking on the 2018 season challenge. This will be the fifth year that our team continues its partnership with Movistar. The collaboration has led to many successes in the past, including the Triple Crown in 2015 and the Team Title in 2016. We have celebrated our achievements together, but we also learned together when things didn’t go our way.
