Sam Lowes undertook his first test onboard the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 Kalex bike that he will ride next season and was immediately impressed with both the bike and his new team.
The Englishman, who rode for the Speed Up factory team last season and finished an impressive 4th place in the world championship last season in only his second season in the class.
Lowes was on track at the first Moto2/Moto3 test of the new season at Jerez on the 12th and 13th November and set the second fastest time of 1:42.432, bested only by Alex Rins who set a time of 1:42.333 on the first day of testing. Lowes clocked up an impressive 167 laps over the two days of testing, and is back on track today and tomorrow at Valencia.
Speaking after his first outing, Lowes said:
I’m really impressed by the team and the bike! From the first moment I felt that the potential is very high and I’m satisfied with the work done in these two days, in which I did a lot of laps, a record for me! I have tried many things on the bike, mostly to get acquainted to it and to understand how it reacts to the set-up changes. It was a great start, the guys from the team are fantastic and I could not be happier.
His new boss, Team manager Fausto Gresini was also impressed with Lowes, not only in his performances but also his attitude to working with the new team, commenting:
I’m really happy because I saw Lowes really excited about working with our team: Sam found himself right at home, and he did a great job during these first tests. Our priority was to make him familarize with the new 2016 Kalex Moto2 bike and with the Ohlins suspension, and I think he did it very well. It’s been an important testing session in which we have obtained very positive results: now we move to Valencia to continue our preparation for next season
Lowes is entering his third and final season in Moto2, having already secured a MotoGP ride for 2017 where he will join the Aprilia factory team.
